What is phenolic insulation? Phenolic insulation, like the Kooltherm range, is the most thermally efficient insulation commonly used. It consists of a rigid thermoset foam core between two facing elements, providing excellent thermal performance.
How is Kooltherm made? Kooltherm’s rigid thermoset foam forms an insulating core between two facing elements. The foam is created by adding a wet foam insulation mix to the bottom layer of facing, which then expands to meet the top layer. It is then cooked under pressure, cured, and hardened before being cut into boards.
What is the difference between Kooltherm and Therma? Kooltherm is a range of advanced phenolic insulation, known for being the thinnest commonly used insulation board for achieving specific U-values. Therma, on the other hand, is a range of PIR insulation boards, which are not as thermally efficient as Kooltherm.
What is the U-value of Kingspan insulation? The U-value is the inverse of the sum of the thermal resistances of the layers that make up an entire building element. The lower the U-value, the better insulated the building element. Kingspan insulation doesn’t have a U-value on its own but contributes to the overall U-value of the construction.
