Does insulating your floor reduce heating costs? Yes, insulating your floor helps reduce heating costs. A properly insulated ground floor can prevent up to 10-15% of heat loss, making rooms more comfortable and quicker to warm up.
What is phenolic insulation? Phenolic insulation, like the Kooltherm range, is the most thermally efficient insulation commonly used. It consists of a rigid thermoset foam core between two facing elements, providing excellent thermal performance with minimal thickness.
How is Kooltherm made? Kooltherm’s rigid thermoset foam forms an insulating core between two facing elements. The foam is added to the bottom layer of the facing, expands to meet the top layer, and then cures under pressure to harden. The boards are then cut to size.
Can I use Kingspan insulation with underfloor heating? Yes, Kingspan floor insulation is suitable for use below underfloor heating systems. The insulation should be laid above the damp-proof membrane, with a strip placed vertically around the floor slab’s perimeter to prevent cold bridging.
What is the difference between Kooltherm and Therma? Kooltherm is an advanced phenolic insulation, offering the thinnest commonly used insulation for specific U-values. Therma is a range of PIR insulation boards, which are not as thermally efficient as Kooltherm.
What is the U-value of Kingspan insulation? The U-value is the inverse of the sum of the thermal resistances of the layers that make up a building element, such as a roof, wall, or floor. Kingspan insulation helps achieve low U-values with minimal thickness.
