What is phenolic insulation? Phenolic insulation, like the Kooltherm range, is a highly thermally efficient insulation made from a rigid thermoset foam. It provides excellent thermal performance with minimal thickness.
How is Kooltherm made? Kooltherm is made by adding a wet foam insulation mix to the bottom layer of facing, which then expands to meet the top layer. The foam bonds to the facings as it dries, and is then cured and hardened under pressure before being cut into boards.
What is the difference between Kooltherm and Therma? Kooltherm is a range of advanced phenolic insulation, known for being the thinnest commonly used insulation board for specific U-values. Therma, on the other hand, is a range of PIR insulation boards, which are less thermally efficient than Kooltherm.
What is the U-value of Kingspan insulation? The U-value is the inverse of the sum of the thermal resistances of the layers that make up a building element. It includes adjustments for fixings or air gaps. Kingspan insulation itself doesn’t have a U-value; it depends on the specific construction details.
